Six Ways to Kickstart Your Social Media Marketing

With over 3 billion people now on social media, it comes as no surprise that brands and businesses across the globe are taking advantage of digital platforms to promote products and services online.

Social media offers an easy, convenient and cost-effective way of growing your business and brand awareness. And we know that getting started can be a daunting task at first, so here are 6 ways to help kickstart your social media marketing today.

1. Before you start posting on your social channels, get to grips with who your customers are. What do they look like? What are their interests? What social media sites are they active on?

Once you’ve done this, you can start to identify the type of content to publish and the best channels for effective targeting.

2. Engage with your audience - connect and communicate with people, offer your advice and support, comment on, like or share their posts.

By developing meaningful relationships with your audience, you are more likely to build a long-term and authentic following. Remember that it is much better to opt for quality rather than quantity.

3. Keep your content consistent. Determine a posting schedule, keep your posts focused, and establish an agreed look and feel for your branding and designs.

4. Plan and schedule your content ahead of time. Make sure that you put a weekly and/or monthly calendar of activity together, to help guide your social media posting.

The caveat to this, of course, is to make sure your approach to scheduling doesn’t cause you to become lazy, or prevent you from being spontaneous and ‘topical’ when the moment requires it.

5. Invest in a social media planning and publishing tool for efficient social media management. This allows you to streamline the posting process by removing the need to manually shift between different social platforms. You can upload all of your content in advance, set a posting date and time, and edit or reschedule accordingly.

6. Get into the habit of evaluating and reporting - set some time aside each week to measure your social media performance. This will help you to understand your audience better, identify which social networks are performing well and how to make your content more credible.
